You can access all databases and database content on- or off-campus. However, if you have saved a page or a link to a page in a database, as you can on an ordinary web site, you won't be able to access later for two reasons:

  • Durable URLs
The pages you see in databases are not durable links, but temporary pages generated by your search. Once your search session has ended, the URL of any page you viewed will no longer work.
  • Proxy Server
The way that databases and their content can be accessed off-campus are through a proxy server on campus. In order to make durable links to databases and their content work off-campus, a prefix has to be added in front of a URL.

How can you get around this in EBSCO? There are several ways:

  • Durable Search Link
You can save a durable link to search results by clicking on Alert/Save/Share on the upper left side of blue bar above search results. Select Permalink and copy the durable link. Using this link, you'll be able to get back to the same search.
  • Durable Article Link (Permalink)
Click on the title of an article from the results list. On the right side of the screen, you will see tool options. Use permalink to create a durable link to the article.
  • Email the Article
Probably the quickest, easiest option to save articles.
  1. Click on the title of an article from the results list.
  2. On the right side of the screen, you will see tool options.
  3. Click on Email.
  4. Fill in the address(es) to which you want to mail it.
  5. Hit the Send button and you're done.

You also have the option in many databases to save to  Google Drive or One Drive - You may have to create a free account with the database in order to choose this option.
